Floorball is exciting and fast-paced — but the speed of the game also makes eye injuries surprisingly common. A quick hit from a stick or ball can cause serious damage if not treated early. Protecting your eyes is one of the smartest safety steps a player can take.
Common Eye Injuries in Floorball
A direct hit to the eye can lead to:
- Corneal abrasions (eye surface scratches)
- Hyphaema (bleeding inside the eye)
- Traumatic iritis (inflammation of the eye)
- Lens damage
- Retinal tears or detachment
These injuries can affect vision temporarily — or permanently if left untreated.
Symptoms to Watch For After a Hit

- Blurred or reduced vision
- Double vision
- Severe eye pain
- Flashes of light or new floaters
- A dark curtain or shadow in your vision
Why High-Speed Balls Are Dangerous
The eye is extremely delicate. When a small, fast-moving ball strikes the eye, the impact force is highly concentrated — increasing the chance of serious injury.
This is why understanding the risks and wearing proper eye protection can make a huge difference.
Quick Clinical Note
Early treatment helps prevent long-term vision problems. Using protective eyewear and seeking prompt medical care after an impact are key steps in protecting your eyesight.
